Heiss (b.1930) served in the Army from 1948 to 1952. His unit, the 442nd Counterintelligence Corps, was attached to the Republic of Korea Army, the Navy, and the 3rd Infantry Division. After his service, he was a steamfitter at the University of Wisconsin-Madison with contractors. He and his wife, Donna, raised seven children.
